Blue Pools / Makarora is reached from the car park beside State Highway 6 opposite Cameron Flat, using the rebuilt bridges and forest track to the Makarora River. The water is exceptionally cold and the river can change quickly; the destination is safest as a viewing walk rather than a swimming promise. Check current DOC alerts, remain on the formed route and use only the designated parking.
