This reserve features scenice walk: Approximately 30 minutes return Greenpoint Domain is a quiet coastal reserve beside Bluff Harbour, best known for its historic ship graveyard, sometimes called “Rotten Row.” Retired fishing boats, oyster vessels, steamers and former passenger craft were brought onto the tidal flats and left there when they reached the end of their working lives. Weathered hulls and skeletal remains can still be seen along the shoreline, particularly at low tide. A short, mostly level track and boardwalk leads through regenerating coastal vegetation to picnic tables, interpretation panels and a viewing area overlooking the wrecks. The walk is approximately one kilometre return and usually takes around 30 minutes. Visitors can also look for oystercatchers, herons, royal spoonbills and shags feeding around the harbour’s tidal flats. The remains are most visible around low tide, when more of the vessels, unusual rock formations and harbour shoreline are exposed. The track crosses the railway line, so visitors should stop and check carefully before crossing. Check whether admission, tours or appointments are required, especially outside the main summer season.
