Alexandra Basin
Central Otago
The Alexandra Basin is a dry inland landscape of rocky hills, river terraces, orchards, vineyards and historic goldfields. Alexandra, Clyde and Earnscleugh sit within a broad open basin shaped by the Clutha / Mata-Au River and Central Otago’s distinctive climate. While the towns and horticultural areas are important anchors, much of the basin remains open, semi-arid, rural and sparsely settled.
