Thomsons Bush

Invercargill · Invercargill · Southland

Thomsons Bush is a peaceful native forest reserve only a few minutes from central Invercargill. The 33-hectare reserve protects one of the few surviving remnants of the kahikatea-dominated swamp forest that once covered much of central and southern Southland. Around 3.5 kilometres of well-graded walking tracks wind through the bush on both sides of Queens Drive. The interconnected paths provide several easy walking options beneath mature native trees and dense forest vegetation. Mountain biking is not permitted within the reserve. Thomsons Bush also has picnic tables, toilets, parking and a children’s playground with swings, climbing equipment and a slide. Pedestrian entrances are available from Queens Drive, Preston. Use formed paths, follow any dog or cycling restrictions and check local notices if facilities, tracks or gates are important to your visit.
